Birkirkara defeat Mosta as Valletta put four past Qormi

Birkirkara continued their positive run as they won their eighth consecutive match with a 2-1 victory over Mosta.

With this result, Birkirkara return to the top of the table as Mosta remain in fifth place.

Mosta managed to take the lead on the 13th minute. Off a Cristian Martins Fernandes freekick, Lukas Duriska headed the ball past goalkeeper Justin Haber to give Mosta the lead.

Mosta did have the lead for long as Birkirkara equalised just two minutes later. Off a cross by Terence Vella, Jhonnattann Benites da Conceicao beat goalkeeper Omar Borg from close range.

Birkirkara scored the goal that would secure them the victory on the 68th minute. Jhonnattann served substitute Frank Temile who then went on to beat the Mosta goalkeeper with his low shot.

In the other match, Valletta defeated Qormi 4-0 to stay in touch with Birkirkara at the top of the standings.

Valletta were quiet in the first half, but they immediately took the lead just two minutes after the start of the second half. A throw -in by Steve Borg was headed in the direction on Roderick Briffa by Luke Dimech. Briffa easily beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia from close range.

On the 49th minute, Valletta doubled their lead. Denni Rocha dos Santos dribbled the ball past the defence to then have his shot beat the Qormi goalkeeper.

The third goal arrived on the 57th minute when Abdelkarim Nafti's powerful shot found the back of the net.

Valletta made sure they took all three points home on the 87th minute. A powerful shot by Abdelkarim Nafti left no chance for goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.
