Mosta secures place in Championship Pool

Sliema defeat Vittoriosa Stars 2-1

Mosta secured a place in the Championship Pool after they came back from two goals down to defeat Qormi 3-2.

Qormi remain second from the bottom in the BOV Premier League standings as this was their fifth defeat in their last six matches.

Qormi took the lead on the 24th minute. Leighton Grech passed to Alfred Effiong who then beat goalkeeper Omar Borg with his shot.

Qormi doubled their lead on the 31st minute. It was Alfred Effiong again who scored after receiving another perfect pass from Leighton Grech.

In added time, Mosta reduced the gap when they were awarded a penalty. Bojan Kaljevic made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Mosta scored the equaliser on the 64th minute thanks to Bojan Kaljevic who beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia with his low shot.

Qormi's Lucas Cantoro was unlucky not to score when he was denied by the woodwork on the 67th minute.

Mosta scored the winning goal on the 80th minute. Off a corner by Harouna Bara, Ishmael Grech's deflection beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia to make the final score 3-2.

In the other match, Sliema Wanderers defeated Vittoriosa Stars 2-1.

Sliema managed to take the lead on the53' minute when off a cross by Admir Vladavic, Matias Muchardi beat goalkeeper Sean Cini with his low shot.

On the 57th minute, Vittoriosa scored the equaliser. Off a cross by Garcia Mitogo, Marcelo Pereria beat goalkeeper Henry Bonello from close range to make the score 1-1.

Vittoriosa did not have a chance to celebrate for long as Sliema regained the lead just two minutes later. Vladavic served Trevor Cilia and the latter beat the rushing Sean Cini with his low shot.
