Swieqi United FC present eleven new signings for coming season

MFA third-division club Swieqi United FC (SUFC) has unveiled its new logo and website during a business breakfast organised in a hotel at St Julian’s this morning. The club also presented eleven new players for the forthcoming seasons, including 3 foreigners.

The club has signed all these players for the coming season “in order to attain the club’s ambition of achieving better results this year”.

The 11 new signings are the following: Michael Ciappara (defender) from B’Bugia F.C.; Stacy Vella (defender) from Msida St. Joseph F.C; Matthew Spiteri (midfielder) from Pieta H.; Baldassare Borg (midfielder) from Luqa St. Andrew’s; Simon Cauchi (striker) from Luxol St. Andrew’s; Fabien Debono (striker) from Sliema Wanderers; Andrè Azzopardi (defender/midfielder) from Premier League Champions B’Kara F.C.; Steve Dimech (defender) from Mosta F.C.

The eleven signing include three foreign players: Portuguese defender Dario Arruda; Dutch midfielder/striker Wymer Snijder; and French midfielder/striker Piere Galloiuste.

SUFC President Ralph Agius Fernandez highlighted the achievements of Swieqi United in its short history. He thanked Kunsill Malti tal-Isports (KMS) for their assistance on the provision of turf pitches for club training.

He also congratulated the newly-formed MFA administration led by MFA President Norman Darmanin-Demajo.

SUFC Marketing and PR Officer Justin Fenech presented the Swieqi United business plan for the next three seasons till 2014 which included the rebranding exercise and the launch of a new website.

Pierre Mizzi, from Logix Communications presented the new SUFC logo. He explained that it encompassed “all that SUFC stands for – mainly its locality and its committee that is made up of University students and university alumni”.

Fenech also presented the designs of the new SUFC website, created by Untangled Media, and by showing visuals of the club’s new 1st and 2nd kits, supplied by Sportika.

SUFC Head Coach Roberto Debrincat, explained that in spite of initial difficulties related to managing a new team, hard work and enthusiasm helped the club in reaching a positive first season result of sixteen points.

On his part, new MFA CEO Bjorn Vassallo praised the positive influence of having a relatively young committee and the beneficial effects that the club has had in the social sphere within its locality.

He also reiterated that the MFA was willing to help Swieqi United FC and all other clubs in their quest to access improved sports facilities without the need for excessive travel.
