ASM end of season demolition and car racing championships
ASM will be organizing the last event of the 2010-2011 ASM-New Styles-Poiatti Championships on Sunday 5th June 2011.
The day’s program which starts at 11.00am will include races for the Autocross and Banger racers. A Car Demolition race is also included in the day’s program to mark the End of Season’s racing.
Though a smaller number of demolition drivers have registered for this Demolition car race, the spectacular show will still be present. We are expecting a great show from the participant. This race starts at about 4.00pm. A car Line-up and a two lap’s parade are performed prior to the racing and banging of the cars.
In the Autocross races of last event one must remark that Patrick Cassar won all the three Heats of the day including the Class A nine Lap Final race on his fast Opel Corsa 1400cc. Emanuel Muscat on another Opel held his 2nd place ahead of Christian Galea on a Fiat Ritmo right to the end of the race. Muscat and Galea will be declared Autocross Champion and Runner-up in this weekend’s racing.
Melo Zammit (Escort Mk3) and Ryan Scerri on a Fiesta Mk2 made an excellent start in the Final B race but Scerri was forced to retire due to a mechanical fault after two laps. Thus he made it easier for Godwin Martin on another Opel to take 2nd place to the chequered flag. Ivan Birmingham on his Suzuki Swift won 3rd place in this race Final.
In the Banger races, Philip Delia and Mario Micallef won 1st and 2nd place in all of the three day’s heats. They were superior over all other competitors in the same race.
On this day the Motocross Class A and B Riders were performing their eight and last championship event for this season. In Class A Carmelo Borg dominated his competitors in the three heats on his 250cc Kawasaki. He was challenged by 2nd placed Gozitan Steve Xuereb on a Honda while Edward Ciantar won 3rd place on another Kawasaki in the day’s event.
The Motocross Class B was well challenged between three leading riders. The day’s points results marked Mario Cauchi (Honda 250cc) as the class B winner. Gozo rider Andre Saliba on a Yamaha and Charles Borg on a Honda won 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
In the Motocross Junior Class, Etienne Bigeni, Kyle Camilleri and Charlo Bonnici won the first three class places. These younger riders compete on the larger track but for a smaller number of race laps.
Stefan Dimech won this years most prestigious Class A Championship in seven from eight events. Stefan dedicated his championship win to his late brother Darren who was also declared a Motocross Champion in 2004.
The Class B Motocross Championship is won by Andre Saliba on a 125cc Yamaha (133), Mario Gauci is Runner-up on a Honda (27) and Gozitan Rider Robert Spiteri who is currently riding in Class A, he won 3rd overall in the Class B Motocross Championship.
Saturday afternoon is reserved for the practice sessions between 2.00pm and 4.00pm
Sunday racing starts at 11.00am and it ends at about 5.30pm.
