ASM launches the Trials Championship and more Autocross races

The First Event of the ASM-Pasta Poiatti Trials Championship will commence at 9.00am next Sunday 26th February at the ASM Racing Circuits at Ta Qali.

After 10 years Trials will be participating in this first Championship event following an intensive training program in Trials riding nursery at the ASM Race Circuits. John and Eddie Bonello are running the Trials nursery every Saturday afternoon from 2.00pm. Next Sunday's 26th February event starts at 9.00am where the competitors are expected to tackle no less than 15 obstacle sections. Autocross Races follows from noon.

A look into the Autocross Points Charts shows us that Christian Galea is at the Top of the scale with 56 points on his Fiat Ritmo. Patrick Cassar on his silver/yellow Opel follows with a 10 points gap and 3rd classified is Emanuel Muscat on another Opel with 28 points.

Class B leader is Mario Scicluna with 26 points. Matthew Borg on a Vauxhall Nova follows with 24 points and 3rd classified is Philip Grima with 15 points on his Mk3 Escort. The race for the leadership and runner-up is still on with five (5) more events to go.

Another special event for the ASM members and their relations was held on the Saturday evening 11th February at Monte Kristo Estate. This special event was organised in
honour of the ASM National Championships winners in Autocross, Motocross and Bangers too. Distinguished guests were present amongst whom, the main ASM sponsor Mr Charles Buhagiar of Pasta Poiatti, Onor. Chris Agius MP and other sponsors who assist ASM throughout the year such as Lawrence Darmanin, Tommy Agius of Philip Agius & Sons and Mr Joe Vella of Asphaltar Ltd. Other guests in absenzia were Onor. Clyde Puli MP-Sec. Parl for Youth and Sport, Mr Bernard Vassallo Chairman KMS, Mr Justice L. Farrugia Sacco President MOC and Mr Noel Farrugia MP Founder President ASM.

The Presentation of trophies was mainly dominated by the Autocross and Motocross Champions. Motocross Champion Stefan Dimech on his Honda CRF and Runner-Up Carmel Borg on a Suzuki RMZ. Autocross Champion Emanuel Muscat on his Opel Corsa and Runner-up Christian Galea on his Fiat Ritmo. Philip Delia won the Bangers Championship and Tony Spiteri is Runner-up on a Granada. The champions and runner-up winners were presented with Trophies from distinguished guests and in the presence on the ASM Executive Committee officers.

Complimentary to the Championships ASM records Autocross and Motocross Class B scales. The winner and runner-up of these categories were also presented with trophies for their achievements and success in the sport. Melo Zammit won the Autocross Class B on his Ford Escort Mk3 and Matthew Borg was Runner-up on a Vauxhall Nova.

The Class B Motocross Champion and Runner-up are two Gozitan Riders. Andre' Saliba won Class B on his Yamaha 125cc and Mario Cauchi is Runner-up on a Honda CRF 250cc. This clearly shows that these riders from our sister Island have made a great improvement in Motocross.

During the ceremony all members who participated in any of the Association Autocross, Motocross, Bangers Championships and Trials riders were presented
with a memento remarking their participation throughout the season 2010-2011.

In particular, all Motocross riders who received Motocross Training from the European Motorcycling Federation (UEM) and from The Italian Federation (FMI) Officers were presented with Certificates by ASM President Mr. Frans Deguara. The Certificates were personally signed by UEM General Secretary Mr. Alessandro Sambuco, FMI Trainers Director Domenico Sotera, Rider Gabriele Settineri, ASM President and Secretary General Mr Frans Deguara and Mr Johann Pace respectively.

In particular, Mr Deguara obo the ASM Executive Committee thanked all media too for supporting motorsport and in particular, the sport organised by Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi.

Practice sessions are held next Saturday 25th from 2.00pm. Trials Racing on Sunday 26th starts at 9.00am and first Autocross race starts at noon.
