Maltese national basketball team wins silver in European Championships

Josh Jackson was selected to form part of the team of the tournament and also won the MVP Award, handed out to the tournament’s best player.

The Maltese national basketball team won a historic silver medal in the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries, in Gibraltar.

Malta prevailed 87-82 to Scotland and 93-75 against Wales to finish in first place of Group B. In the semi-finals, they overcame San Marino 89-68 but lost to Andorra in the final by a minimal margin of 66-63.

Samuel Deguara won the Fair Play Award, while Josh Jackson was selected to form part of the team of the tournament. He also won the MVP Award, given to the tournament’s best player.

Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sports, Chris Agius, congratulated the President of the MBA Paul Sultana, the national team coach Paolo Di Fonzo and national team basketball for winning the silver medal.

Only a few days ago, the boys U16 National team won the gold medal while that U16 girls won one silver at European Championships FIBA aged under 16 years.
