The second season of the Italian TV series Come un delfino, which has already commenced shooting in Rome, will shortly be carrying out a six-week shoot which will prominently feature Malta.

Come un delfino was first aired on Canale5. Its successful initial run led to a co-production with Sanmarco Film Company and RTI (Mediaset), and a further four episodes of the series were commissioned.

The mini-series revolves around the character of Alessandro Dominici (Raoul Bova), a Sicilian swimmer who's had to ditch the sport after falling pray to heart disease. Instead, he turns to coaching a band of misfits.

Bova - who is also co-producing the series with Chiara Giordano - is an internationally-renowed Italian actor, famous for his roles in films like Alien vs. Predator, Karol: a man who became Pope, Baaria and The Tourist.

Appropriately enough, Bova was also a swimming champion before he turned to acting.

"As a location, the whole of Malta can be a set for a movie. There are all sorts of extremes here and you can be everywhere within minutes. There is no need for a stage because the streets are the actual stage," Bova said.

His co-stars on Come un delfino include: Giulia Bevilacqua, Ricky Memphis, Maurizio Mattioli, Paolo Conticini and Tony Sperandeo.

The series will benefit from financial incentives offered by the Malta Film Commission for filming in Malta and the fundamental presence of Malta Tourism Authority. It will be managed locally by Latina Pictures and employ locations like Sliema, Blue Grotto and Golden Bay.

The production will be shooting at the National Swimming Pool, Tal-Qroqq on April 14, concurrently with the  19th International Age Group Swimming Meeting Malta. The public is invited to participate as spectators between 12:00 and 15:00.

Come un delfino will be broadcast on Canale5 at the end of the year.
