The trailer proper will be shown on the American channel Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, but eagle-eyed viewers can catch a few shots of Malta in this trailer-for-a-trailer for World War Z.

The beleaguered Brad Pitt zombie actioner was partly filmed in Malta last summer, but its troubles began when it moved to Hungary, where authorities swooped upon the crew after discovering a stash of firearms being used as props.

More fundamentally, however, the film hit a wall when Pitt - who is also a producer on the film - clashed with both the studios and director Marc Forster (Monster's Ball, Quantum of Solace), forcing the production to undergo extensive reshoots.

Personally hand-picked by Pitt to helm the production, Forster was, according to insider sources, incapable of adequately handling a big-budget blockbuster of this scale.

It has also been reported that substantial changes to the script have been ordered by the studio - with the film's final act having proven to be the most problematic.

Adapted from the satirical hit novel by Max Brooks, World War Z sees Pitt as UN agent Gerry Lane who, in the wake of an contagious outbreak that turns people into bloodthirsty zombies, seems to hold the key to mankind's salvation.

Originally scheduled for a December release, World War Z is scheduled to hit American cinemas in June 2013.
