Film Awards statuettes make way to MCC

Braving the rain, 17 European Film Awards statuettes arrived to Malta from London this morning.

Though the morning's torrential rains may not have given them the best welcome to our (usually) sunny isles, 17 European Film Awards statuettes made their way to the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta from London this morning.

In a short, symbolic event, the statuettes - which will be handed to winners at the European Film Awards ceremony this Saturday - were presented to Culture Minister Mario de Marco in the presence of European Film Awards director Marion Döring and Malta's Film Commissioner Peter Busuttil.

The European Film Awards, which will welcome a host of European film stars and filmmakers, will also take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre this Saturday - December 1.

British actress Helen Mirren will be picking up a Lifetime Achievement Award, along with veteran Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci. Other notable guests at the ceremony will include UK actor Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, Layer Cake) and rising star Mads Mikkelsen - the Danish actor is also nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in Thomas Vinterberg's The Hunt.
