Marvel make witty use of their new partnership with Disney with the menacing new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron – the sequel to the 2012 superhero dream-team blockbuster.

Blame Lana del Rey? Marvel have released the brand-new trailer to Avengers: Age of Ultron a day earlier than planned, and it’s distinguished by James Spader’s creepy rendition of a classic Disney song – ‘I’ve Got No Strings’ from Pinocchio, a flourish probably made contractually easier by the fact that Disney bought Marvel last year.

When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance.

As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Originally meant to be released tonight – as was announced at the tail end of an Agents of SHIELD episode – the trailer can instead be watched in crisp HD right now.

Since it was leaked early, Marvel decided to release a high-quality version early, humorously tweeting, ‘Damn it, Hydra’ – a reference to the comic book-cum-movie studio’s fictional terrorist organisation.
