This will feature Maltese pianist Kathleen de Domenico and the Coriolis String Trio consisting of Michaela Buchholz (violin), Klaus-Peter Werani (viola) and Hanno Simons (cello).

The programme consists of a movement for piano quartet by Mahler, written in 1876 and practically his only chamber work. It is followed by Beethoven’s String Trio in G Major, Op.9, N.1 and after the interval the recital concludes with Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E flat Major, Op.47.

Kathleen de Domenico was born in Malta and started her piano studies with Adelaide Hare. In 1965 she won first prize in the National Malta Piano Competition, won a scholarship to the Saarbrücken Academy and studied for a year with Walter Blankenheim.

From 1968 she studied with Rosl Schmid at the Musik Akademie of Munich from where she graduated in 1973.

Meanwhile she had given several recitals in German recital halls and on German radio. In 1970 she was one of a number of artistes who represented Malta at the World Expo in Osaka Kyoto where she performed as soloist in the world premiere of Charles Camilleri’s Second Piano Concerto, ‘Maqam’.

From 1986, as part of a piano and cello duo she travelled extensively world-wide at the invitation of various German embassies. She enjoys her periodic visits to Malta where she is a familiar face at the Manoel. She is a very successful and highly regarded pianist specialising in chamber music and since 2006 has been teaching at the Musik Akademie in Munich.

All members of the Coriolis String Trio are very accomplished soloists in their own right having studied at leading academies of music in Vienna and Germany. Greatly experienced as solo performers and with orchestra they enjoy the chamber repertoire which in their case ranges from baroque to avant-garde.

Michaela Buchholz is a member of the Münchner Kammerorchester while the other members of the trio are both members of the  Sinfonieorchester des Bayerisches Runfdunks, (Bavarian Radio S.O.), which has a world-wide reputation. They have inaugurated a series of concerts called HörBlicke in which they combine premieres of contemporary compositions as well as contemporary visual fine art.
