Will.i.am to headline Isle of MTV 2012

Will.i.am is announced as one of the headlining acts of Isle of MTV 2012 to be hosted in Malta for the sixth year.

Culture minister Mario de Marco together with an MTV representative Antonio Canto announced that Will.i.am will be headlining this year’s Isle of MTV 2012 on 26 June.

William James Adams Jr aka Will.i.am will be performing in Malta for the second time after having performed together with Black Eyed Peas during Isle of MTV 2009.

It is likely that Will.i.am will be performing tracks from his solo album ‘#willpower’ which is to be released this year.

During a press conference in which the news was announced, de Marco said that The Isle of MTV - which has been taking place at the Granaries in Floriana since 2007 - has been successful in attracting a younger tourist base in Malta.

On a related note, Malta Tourism Authority Chief Executive Josef Formosa Gauci said that Isle of MTV sets out to counteract the perception that Malta, as a tourist destination, tends to cater largely to pensioners.

"Particularly in the UK, Malta is perceived as being a destination your grandparents visit," Formosa Gauci said.
