Famous for her top hits I'm Like a Bird and Man Eater, Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado will join Flo Rida and Will.I.Am for this year's edition of the Isle of MTV festival.

Apart from multi-platinum singer will.i.am, this year's edition of Isle of MTV - taking place at The Granaries, Floriana on June 26 - will be headlined by Flo Rida and Nelly Furtado.

They will be supported by US singer Cassie to entertain a 50,000-strong crowd during the free concert, which attracts both locals and tourists and is televised internationally by the MTV network.

"I'm so excited to go to Malta and perform for MTV. It's my summer of The Spirit Indestructible-it's gonna be serious!" Furtado said.

"I'm excited to come to Malta and be a part of the Isle of MTV, Malta is beautiful and I hear nothing but great things about the festival, can't wait," added Cassie.

The event will also mark Flo Rida's second concert on the island, as the hip-hop star visited our shores on February 2010 to perform at Sky Club, Paceville.

MTV will film the concert for international broadcast across 63 MTV channels and 153 territories around the world as part of its 'World Stage' music series.  Isle of MTV Malta Special 2012 will be broadcast on MTV music channels from August 1 of this year.

Now in its sixth edition, The Isle of MTV concerts are one of the most consistently popular cultural events on the Maltese calendar, and have previously featured stars like Lady Gaga (who participated twice), Snoop Dogg, Black Eyed Peas and Enrique Iglesias.

Malta is the fifth island to be christened 'Isle of MTV' since the concept first kicked off in Torre de Belém, Lisbon, Portugal in 2002.

In a press conference announcing headliner will.i.am last month, a Ministry for Tourism spokesperson said that one of the aims of the Isle of MTV was to transform Malta into a tourist location that is not just "for grandparents".
