Santana comes to Malta

Carlos Santana, one of the biggest rock guitar legends to ever hit the music scene, will be performing live in Malta accompanied by his full band on Sunday, July 24 on the Granaries in Floriana for a three-hour extravaganza.

The concert was announced by NnG Promotions in a press conference held last Friday at the Vodafone outlet in Republic Street, Valletta.

Santana, an A-List top act and one of the biggest names ever to grace the stage in Malta, will be playing all his popular classics that have thrilled generations of music lovers. The music legend will be playing in Malta as part of his Guitar Heaven 2011 tour. He will be accompanied by his full band and is expected to put up one of the most spectacular audio-visual shows that Maltese audiences have ever been treated to.

The announcement was made even as NnG Promotions are busy with the final preparations for another big concert, when pop phenomenon James Blunt will be performing at the Valletta Waterfront on the April 7. Both Santana’s and James Blunt’s performances follow the tradition of mega concerts that NnG Promotions are now renowned for.

This past year saw a total of three live concerts by four international singers Joseph Calleja performing with Dionne Warwick and Riccardo Cocciante, Ronan Keating and Elton John.

“Santana is undoubtedly one of the biggest names on the international scene. The appeal of his music cuts across generations, with top hits Smooth, Put Your Light On, Maria Maria, Corazon Espinado, Oyo Como Va and Black Magic Woman and many others enjoying enduring popularity and making him one of the most followed artistes of our time.

"Judging by the response we have already received from local music aficionados, we are expecting an unforgettable night on July 24,” NnG Director Nigel Camilleri said.

Santana’s musical genius has earned him a number of awards, including nine Grammy awards for the album Supernatural, including Album Of the Year, Best Rock Album, Record Of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Collaboration, all for the hit Smooth.

The album also received Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group for Maria Maria, Best Rock Performance by a Duo/Group for Put Your Lights On, Best Rock Instrumental Performance for The Calling (featuring Eric Clapton) and Best Pop Instrumental Performance. The singer’s quartet of albums – Supernatural, Shaman, All That I Am, and now Guitar Heaven – stand alone in the annals of rock history.
The concert is sponsored by Vodafone and Malta International Airport.
