Voices packs the MCC

The highly successful choir concert returned to the Mediterranean Conference Centre this week.

The audience which packed the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) on Wednesday clapped, sang and danced to the familiar tunes of Abba, Sting, Elton John, Pink Floyd and many other pop and rock classics as Voices – Listen to the Music began their series of ten concerts which will run until October 17.

The concerts, sponsored by the Vodafone Malta Foundation, take place every two years and have become a fixture in Malta’s musical calendar.

This year’s Voices features some talented new soloists who are making their public debut at the MCC and who will surely continue to be remembered long after the concerts are over.

It has been a gruelling summer of rehearsals by the 200-strong volunteer choir led by Martina Caruana and the eleven piece band led by Sandro Grech.  Everyone involved in Voices, including the committee, the back stage crew and the front of house staff are also volunteers. Those who audition for the concerts know that it means putting their summer plans on hold, but the enormous commitment is worth it in the end. All the ticket sales from the ten nights are donated to charity, with the first night this year going towards the Community Chest Fund. Beneficiaries are currently being shortlisted by a special advisory board who will shortly announce the charities benefitting this year.

A few weeks ago, The Learning Centre at San Blas was inaugurated by Mons Victor Grech. The centre will provide educational and creative facilities for the residents undergoing drug rehabilitation, and was made possible from the funds raised from the Voices 2008 Tell Me Why concerts.

Tickets are on sale from the MCC and Manoel Theatre booking offices. You can check ticket availability as well as book online from www.voices.org.mt.
