Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana sign with Underground Quality Label

During the past year local DJ Owen Jay has teamed up with local producer Melchior Sultana with the aim of producing a few tracks for digital label Batti Batti. However, the results of this fun project have reached Edward McKeithen, owner of Underground Quality Label (UQ), one of the finest deep house imprints in the business and he has signed the locals artists for two releases on vinyl.

‘Crossing Borders’ EP, features four deep house tracks, which on his weekly live radio show, Jus-Ed refers to as “tasteful, deep, sexy and something special”. It is scheduled to be released in December and it will be the 38^th release on the UQ catalogue.  Another four-track EP is scheduled for 2011. 

Underground Quality is home for an erray of international artists including Anton Zap (Russia), Levon Vincent (USA), Steffi (Germany), Tazz (Canada), Smallpeople (Germany), Jenifa Mayanja (USA), Aybee (USA) to name a few. Most of the artists have their own record labels and varied projects, however, Jus-Ed brings these people under one roof to deliver deep yet driving house music that finds its roots in the early Detroit & Chicago house sounds.

With 20 years experience in the business DJ Jus- Ed is referred to as the ‘toast of the underground” who is constantly touring the world to perform at clubs such as Fabric/ London, Tape Club/ Berlin, Propaganda/ Moscow, Womb/Tokyo, Twilo/NYC and many more.

Sultana has been producing music for nearly eight years and his first album ‘Recognise The Real’ was released in 2009. He is currently finalising his second album ‘World is History’ which will be released on Batti Batti in 2011. Having no specific boundaries Sultana’s albums are jazzy and diverse, alternating between chill Trip Hop and soulful Drum and Bass. 

With the support of the US Embassy, Dj Jus-Ed will be in Malta for the Record Release Party taking place on 7^th December 2010 at The Fortress in Xemxija. Starting off the event in the terrace,  Sultana will be performing a live session of his forthcoming album and it will feature Andrea Caruana on percussions. Local Djs Owen Jay, Giulivo & SSoker will also be performing at this occasion.
