Employment up, registered unemployed up since 2008

Female workforce rose by 14.1%

Registered full-time jobs increased in the four-year period between 2008 and 2012 by 6,291 to 152,306, according to the National Statistics Office.

At the same time, registered unemployment also rose during the same period by 714 to a total of 6,838.

The highest increases of full-time jobs since 2008 occured in the professional, scientific and technical sectors; closely followed by human health and social work activities.  The biggest decrease of jobs occurred in the manufacturing sector.

Whilst the private sector witnessed a rise of 6.8%, or 7,051 jobs, the public sector fell by 1.8%, or 760 jobs.

Female employment rose by 14.1% - 6,487 jobs - with the biggest increase occurring in the human health and social work activities.

Part-time jobs also rose since 2008 with a reported 20.4% increase. There was an increase of 21.3% in persons employed on a part-time basis as their primary occupation, whilst an increase of 19.3% in persons employed on a part-time basis as their secondary occupation.
