The number of persons registering for work in July this year fell by 1,702 when compared to the same month last year, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).

The number of registered unemployed stood at 3,360 compared to 5,062 in July last year.

Data provided by Jobsplus for July 2016 indicate a decrease of 1,551 persons registering under Part I and a decrease of 151 among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register, when compared to July 2015.

Overall, decreases in registered unemployment were recorded among all age groups.

When compared to 2015, registrants for work decreased irrespective of how long they had been registering for work; the largest decrease in registered unemployed was recorded among persons who had been registering for over one year.

The number of persons with a disability who were registering for work also decreased by 23 to 361, with males accounted for 78.1% of total registrants with a disability.

The largest share of males on the unemployment register sought occupations as clerical support workers (17.%), as did their female counterparts (31.9%).

The registered unemployment rate in March 2016 stood at 2.2% of the labour supply, excluding part-time employment, and varied from 2.6% among men to 1.6% among women.
