Emergency response workers stationed at Blue Lagoon will now have a vantage point when watching over bathers - this thanks to a recently-built watchtower for Emergency and Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) lifeguards.

Last summer, ERRC assisted 706 bathers who either got injured or found themselves in difficulty while swimming at the Blue Lagoon, at Ramla Bay and at Marsalforn -  the three locations where it carries lifeguarding services.

Built by Ministry for Gozo workers, the structure will give emergency response workers a vantage point when watching over the lagoon.

ERRC lifeguards use a hydro ambulance to transport injured bathers to the Mġarr or Ċirkewwa terminals.

Across the sea from the Lagoon, at Xatt l-Aħmar in Gozo, MGOZ sought the collaboration of ERRC for the installation of three marker buoys over three diving wrecks, the Karwela, MV Xlendi and Cominoland.

Xatt L-Aħmar is a popular diving site and the buoys make it easier for divers to locate the wrecks.
