A flock of birds presumed to be the 12 mute swans that had been sheltering in Marsalforn Valley since the beginning of the year were briefly observed once again in San Blas, Nadur, before leaving once again, according to bird enthusiasts.

The swans were noted to have departed the valley some time after 7:00am on Tuesday by members of the Facebook group Birds in the Maltese Islands.

The swans, who occasionally took flight and returned to the same spot, were being monitored by volunteers from BirdLife Malta as well as hunting organisations.

In a discussion on the same Facebook group, member Kevin Dimech said he had been informed the birds were noticed in San Blas and that they were the same group as before.

Ornithologist Natalino Fenech later commented that those who had observed the birds were not reliable to identify the species. He added that the birds had been observed between San Blas and Ramla l-Hamra, before taking off once again.
