Tourist dies after parasailing accident off St Julian’s

Updated at 4:30pm with woman's condition

A 59-year-old man visiting Malta from the United Kingdom died in a parasailing accident off St Julian’s on Saturday afternoon, police confirmed.

The man and a 60-year-old woman, also from the UK, were parasailing about a metre off St Julian’s when, at around 1pm, they were seen falling into the sea due to the wind.

Police were notified about the accident at around 1pm and immediately arrived on the scene.

After arriving, police brought the pair back to shore using a boat found in the vicinity, where they received assistance from a medical team.

Unfortunately, the man was certified dead on the spot.

The woman was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance for treatment. 

She was later certified to have suffered grievous injuries.

Magistrate Renata Farrugia appointed an inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing.
