A 44-year-old father from Bormla was jailed for 10 years this morning, after admitting before the start of his trial, of having raped his three daughters.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Mr. Justice Mallia and entered a guilty plea through his lawyers Anglu Farrugia and Michael Sciriha

He admitted to having raped two of the girls when they were aged 12 and 11, and the third, even while still recovering from a stomach operation.

According to the prosecution, which was led by Lara Lanfranco from the Attorney General's Office, the cases relate to 31 March 2012 and the previous months.

The first case developed when the accused invited his 12 year-old daughter to see a Playstation game, but took her to a bar instead, got her drunk and raped her in a room. The prosecution argued that the girl was raped another three times, stopped only when she thought she had been impregnated.

When the abuse on the first daughter had stopped, the accused set his eyes on his second born daughter, whom he raped in a room near Ghajn Dwieli, limits of Bormla. The girl had recounted that she was raped other times from then on, including a time when she was still recovering from major surgery to her stomach.

According to the prosecution, the accused used to threaten his daughters not to reveal anything to their mother, friends or anybody, exerting undue pressure on them.

The cases had come to light and the man was arrested after the first two girls spoke to each other, and understood that they went through the same experience.

They later discovered that even their younger sister had suffered the same fate at the hands of their father.

On handing judgement, Judge Michael Mallia ordered the accused be immediately escorted to Corradino Prisons where he was to start serving his sentence.

He was also fined €3,100.
