Unpaid ‘Arriva’ bus driver charged with misappropriating €10,000

A former ‘Arriva’ bus driver, who claimed that he was owed €3,293 in unpaid salaries, admitted to misappropriating €10,000 in bus ticket monies from the company.

Carl Grima, 31 of Birkirkara admitted to misappropriating almost €10,000 in bus ticket money from his previous employer 'Arriva' which owed him €3,293 in unpaid salaries over an issue with the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC).

Grima, who was charged by Inspector Jonathan Ferris from the Economic Crimes Unit, said that when summoned to the Police Headquarters for questioning, he immediately admitted to taking the money.

He kept the money he was owed and used the remainder to pay off his car, and made other purchases.

Assisted by lawyer Chris Cardona, Grima said that he is prepared to pay Arriva the difference within six months.

Carmen Galea, a financial assistant with 'Arriva' agreed that Grima was owed €3,293 in unpaid salaries and bonuses, but was claiming back the difference of €6,688.

The case is adjourned for sentencing.
