Victim recounts being stabbed by former partner’s son

A man who was stabbed twice in the back by his former partner’s son in 2011, took the witness stand this morning, confirming his version of events which almost left him for dead.

Emanuel Schembri of Birzebbugia testified before Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona in the compilation of evidence against 21 year-old Liam Camilleri, who stands charged with his attempted murder.

The incident took place in Pembroke in June 2011, when Schembri had gone to speak to Camilleri's mother Judith, who had just ended her relationship with him, and started seeing another man.

Schembri said that he employed the accused for some at his garage on Tal-Barrani Road.

He explained that the accused was his former partner's son, and on the day of the incident he had received a text message from her, informing him that she was ending the relationship and was seeing another man.

Schembri admitted that he did not take the news well, and decided to drive to Pembroke wher she lived, and try to speak to her.

The witness explained that as he waited in the street for Judith Camilleri to come out to talk to him, he could see some movements behind her house windows. It was then, when he decided to ring her bell and walk up the steps to her apartment.

Schembri said that he was greeted with shouting, and was told to go away, while her son Liam was heard saying "I will put him in his place."

He added that he left the doorway and walked to his car, when Liam struck him twice at his back with a knife, while his elder brother Dean threatened him with a wooden stick.

While Schembri fell to the ground, he said he remained on the pavement until an ambulance arrived and was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital. The case continues.

Dean Camilleri was separately charged with threatening Schembri and admitted to the charges.
