Seven doctors face charges of negligently causing 24 month-old child’s death

Seven doctors to face criminal charges over the death of a 24 month-old child at Mater Dei Hospital.

A Magistrate has put off the prosecution of seven doctors, who face charges of negligently causing the death of a 24 month-old baby at Mater Dei Hospital.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona this morning warned a defence team, that unless a doctor returns to Malta to face criminal charges connected to the negligent death of a 24 month-old child, he will have no option but to order an arrest warrant.

Six of the seven doctor team appeared in Court this morning where they had to be arraigned over the negligent death if the child at Mater Dei Hospital in February 2011.

But given that the seventh was not present after the Court was informed that he had not been notified and was abroad, Magistrate Micallef Trigona had no other option but to put off the case to another date.

The Magistrate warned the lawyers to inform their client that should he fail to appear in Court during the next sitting, he would see to the issue of an arrest warrant, and the doctor would have alot more to answer for.

The child's parents were also present in Magistrate Micallef Trigona's court room.

the learned(sic) magistrate should be ordering an Arrest warrant immediately for those buffoons whose responsibility it was to ensure all the accused are served and notified to appear when thay should. Why threaten the doctor with arrest for any future non-attendance when clearly the fault in this instance lies elsewhere?
