Judge bribery case | Court presented with transcripts of phone calls

Court expert presents transcripts of 79 phone calls intercepted by Security Services during investigations into alleged bribery of former Judge Raymond C. Pace.

A total of 194 pages of telephone conversations, intercepted by the security services during their investigations into the alleged bribery of former Judge Raymond C. Pace, were presented this morning to Magistrate Edwina Grima, who is presiding over the compilation of evidence against Raymond Caruana 51 of Zebbug and Sandro Psaila, 40 of Valletta.

Caruana and Psaila are charged with bribing the former judge, in a bid to influence a judgment in the Criminal Courts.

During this morning's sitting, lawyer Daniela Mangion, who was appointed to transcribe the calls, presented the documentation to the Court.

She explained that a total of 79 calls were intercepted by the Police between August and December last year.

Mangion added that there were other people intercepted in some calls, who could not be identified, including some women.

Meanwhile, lawyers Edward Gatt and Veronique Dalli, who are appearing for the accused, informed Magistrate Edwina Grima that in the next sitting, they will be presenting an application regarding the seizure of assets, as imposed on their clients.

The case has been adjourned for February 6.
