The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) have suspended the search for a missing diver at Dwejra Gozo due to deteriorating weather conditions in the area.

Emanuel Sammut, 43 of Birkirkara, went missing on Friday 1 March and his car was found in Dwejra with some decaying fish inside.

In a statement issued this afternoon, the AFM pointed that its Rescue Coordination Centre has been coordinating the search effort since being alerted about the case on Sunday afternoon by the Victoria Police Station.

Search efforts were immediately launched by means of various AFM sea and air assets.

The primary effort was focused on underwater searches and these were coordinated by the AFM dive teams.

The AFM were joined by divers from the Civil Protection Department and the volunteer Emergency Response and Rescue Corp diving team.

A total of 11 dives were performed, however, despite all efforts, searches have not yielded positive results.
