Court case seeing directors of Island Bunkering Oils facing charges over an occupational incident in 2010 is extinguished after states he received compensation.

A court case against the board of directors of Island Bunkering Oils Ltd, over an occupational incident in 2010 was today extinguished after the victim repealed his claim, stating he has no further interest for the case to continue.

In May 2010, Gilbert Galea sustained severe hand injuries when his hand got stuck in mechanical equipment. He was employed with Island Bunkering Oils Ltd. Tancred Tabone, Francis A. Portelli, Frederick Frendo, Anthony Cassar, Jose P. Pandolfino and Godfrey Massa faced charges of failing to oversee health and safety directives.

However in a previous sitting the victim's lawyer, Albert Libreri, informed the court the victim had reached an administrative compensation agreement with the board of directors and wanted to renounce action from his side.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia stated he needed verification of the victim's renunciation would indeed extinguish the case. Today, the court held that it had received the requested verifications and declared the case extinguished.
