Updated | Attempted murder in Pietá, man in critical condition
52-year-old wounded while in his vehicle in Pietà - man was facing criminal charges over HSBC heist.


One of the men allegedly involved in the heist on the HSBC headquarters in 2010 was shot with three bullets to the head late last night.
Vince Muscat, also known as 'il-Kohhu', entered the police station at Msida late last nighst at 11:30pm when he shocked officers as he presented himself with blood gushing from his head.
It was Muscat who, after having been shot while in his car, drove himself to the police station. He was given first aid by the policemen until an ambulance arrived and took him to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was treated for the wounds he sustained.
Although he was hit with three bullets to the head, one of the bullets entered his head and down his neck. Another shot hit him slightly while the third one first hit the car then his head.
After being operated upon, Muscat was transferred to the ITU and was certified to be in danger of losing his life.
The attempted murder happened when Muscat was in his car in Bordin Street in Gwardamangia, Pietá. He had just arrived near his house when at least six shots were fired, hitting him at least twice, while the other shots hit the car. The shots were fired from a small calibre pistol.
The crime scene was cordoned-off by district police to preserve any evidence. Assistant Commissioner Silvio Valletta together with Inspectors Keith Arnaud and Sandro Millo and other police officers were on the scene.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby cameras. It is believed that nobody heard the shots and no witnesses so far have come forward.
Magistrate on duty, Dr Ian Farrugia, was duly informed and he appointed ballistic expert Brigadier Maurice Calleja, forensic specialist Dr Mario Scerri and architect Richard Aquilina as court experts together with Scene of the Crime Officers.
Vince Muscat was known to the police, and was required to sign the bail book at the police station in Msida, on a daily basis. He was allegedly involved in the shoot-out that took place with police officers when an alleged heist on the Ruzar Briffa Centre, the HSBC head office, in Qormi was foiled. At least 30 rounds were shot at the police from the mobile squad.
