Two years in prison for Romanian jewellery thieves

The accused stole €2,320 worth of jewellery items to the detriment of owner Paul Farrugia and other persons.

Two Romanians were sentenced to 24 months' imprisonment after they admitted to the charges of aggravated theft.

Mandea Florica and Fereru Georgeta appeared in front of Magistrate Joe Mifsud accused of stealing jewellery from a shop in Victoria, Gozo.

The incident occurred on 26 August of this year, at around 9:45am.

The accused stole €2,320 worth of jewellery items to the detriment of owner Paul Farrugia and other persons.

Florica and Georgeta were also accused of committing an aggravated theft with violence. They both pleaded guilty to the charges.

Police investigations had revealed that the thieves had arrived in Gozo on 25 August, left Gozo for Malta after the burglary and left Malta a day later.

The police added that they had requested an international arrest warrant for the thieves to be held and sent to Malta to face criminal proceedings.

Prosecution was led by Inspectors Kurt Zahra and Bernard Charles Spiteri.
