Attard man charged with trafficking 800 ecstasy pills

A man from Attard remains in police custody after he was found in possession of nearly 800 ecstasy pills on Saturday.

Tomislav Hegedus, 24, was arrested at Pembroke by police officers who stopped his car, in what appears to have been a carefully planned interception.

Some 767 ecstasy pills, together with 18g of cocaine and a small amount of cannabis were found in Hegedus' vehicle, Inspector Justine Grech explained as the man was arraigned before magistrate Marseanne Farrugia earlier today.

Hegedus was charged with aggravated possession of ecstasy and cocaine, both of which had been found in circumstances which indicated that they were not intended solely for his personal use.

A freezing order over his assets was also requested.

Defence lawyer Roberto Montalto entered a plea of not guilty and requested bail. The court upheld the request for bail, ordering him to observe a curfew and sign a bail book every day and fixed his bail bond at €30,000. Hegedus was unable to produce the required third-party guarantor for this amount and has been remanded in custody until he does so.
