The police are investigating an alleged assault that took place this morning in Attard, when a 28-year-old man was attacked by three unknown assailants.

Tyrone Spiteri, an Attard resident, had just stepped outside his residence at around 6.15am and was walking towards his van when he was allegedly assaulted in Harrub Street, Attard.

Photos of the man show bruises to his face and back.

The police said that the victim had been punched and hit with a hard object.

Spiteri managed to escape his assailants and sought refuge in his residence from where he called the police. He was treated for his injuries at the health centre.

A magisterial inquiry has been launched while police investigation into the case is underway.
