Elderly woman seriously injured after being hit by van

An elderly woman was grievously injured today after she was hit by a van in Birkirkara,

The accident, which happened at around 11am in Triq Fleur De Lys, involved a Toyota Townace van being driven by a 39-year-old man from Naxxar.

The victim, 72, from Birkirkara, was taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where her injuries were found to be serious in nature.

Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace started an inquiry on the incident and appointed a number of experts to assist her.

Police investigations are ongoing.
