Three arrested in Gzira drug bust

The police arrested the men after catching them in possession of substances suspected to be cocaine and heroin

Three men were arrested yesterday after the police raided a residence in Gzira and found a quantity of drugs.

In a statement Sunday afternoon, the police said that officers from the Anti-Drug Squad, Special Intervention Unit and traffic division carried out a raid at a residence in Triq tas-Sliema, Gzira, after they had been tipped off that drugs were being abused there.

Three men, aged between 30 to 48 and residing in Gzira and Sliema, were arrested after they were caught with sachets containing white and brown powder, suspected to be cocaine and heroin.

Electronic weighing scales and other objects were also found in the building, indicating that the drugs were being prepared for sale.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli was informed of the case, and appointed a number of experts to assist in the inquiry which she started.

The men are being held in police custody, and are expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
