A 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday night after he allegedly broke into a shop in Birkirkara and stole some objects.

The police said the incident, which took place at around 11.15pm in Triq in-Naxxar, was first spotted by an off duty police constable, who noticed that the front glass door of the shop was closed, and saw a person wearing a hoody leaving the store.

The alleged perpetrator fled the scene and headed towards Valley Road, where he was stopped by the same officer, and was arrested with the assistance of district police officers who arrived immediately.

Stolen objects and tools used for robberies were found on the man’s person.

The man is being held in custody as police investigations continue.
