PN proposes 'National Healthcare Park' to introduce healthier lifestyles
The proposal was part of a number of health-related proposals announced between Tuesday and Wednesday
The Nationalist Party is proposing a “National Healthcare Park” as part of its healthcare proposals.
According to the party, this will focus on healthier lifestyles and rehabilitation and is intended to address gaps in early intervention and post-hospital recovery. The PN said the facility would serve as a first line of defence against disease while supporting patients transitioning out of hospital care.
On Tuesday, party leader Alex Borg promised that a government led by him would build a network of new hospitals and upgrade existing ones across Malta and Gozo.
On Wednesday, the PN promised to introduce a new process to eliminate waiting times for operations.
The PN also promised more investment in healthcare workers through better conditions, training and pay, and the introduction of a unified digital medical record system and a “digital front door” for accessing services.
Other proposals include improving primary health centres to provide urgent care and diagnostics, improving patient discharge planning, and ensuring that all cancer medicines prescribed by consultants are provided free of charge.
The PN said the combined approach would reduce pressure on Mater Dei Hospital, improve patient flow, and bring healthcare services closer to communities across the country.
