Prime Minister Robert Abela said a “few bad choices” can ruin the government’s progress, insisting people should not take the Labour Party’s accomplishments for granted.

“Understand me when I tell you not to take anything for granted,” Abela said. “If you want to keep what you have, give your trust to the people who see you as a priority.”

Speaking in Żabbar on Monday, Abela pointed out the PL has built the strongest economy in the EU despite obstacles.

“There was never a time where I gave up, and as long as you are behind me I never will,” he said.

Abela said the PL’s manifesto was “written by all of you,” contrasting it with the PN’s, which he claimed was generated by an AI chatbot. He added Borg now “blames the chatbot every time he is caught making a mistake.”

Abela recalled a time where international agencies gave the PN repeated downgrades, a burden he said was carried by the Maltese people.

He recalled a series of PL proposals such as the €1,000 yearly super bonus, a culture pass for young people, and the expanded first-time buyer scheme. He noted while pensions were frozen under a PN government, the PL is promising an increase of at least €50 each week. Discussing IVF, Abela claimed the PN’s manifesto does not feature a single page addressing the issue.

Abela warned the audience not to be swayed by surveys, highlighting decisions are made by votes not survey results.

He described the election as one of the hardest the PL has faced, and an important one for the future of the country.

“Every election starts with zero,” Abela said, calling on those who cast their vote to work to persuade others to do the same. “Show up early on Saturday, show up with your family and your friends.”

The event was also addressed by PL candidates Omar Farrugia, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, and Miriam Dalli.
