'Labour have made a serious mistake in their calculations' - Gonzi

Energy proposals and international experts dominate once again

In a blustery tent in the tiny village of Dingli, a good number of party faithful tonight braved the cold in order to get the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Gonzi.

Immediately picking up on the theme of sound financial management Gonzi turned his sights on the PL’s energy proposals.

“We are a party orientated towards achieving concrete results, not just using flowery language. Joseph Muscat’s promises are a danger to our country’s finances. Resigning would be the easy option, the trick is to make the right choices in the first place,"Gonzi said, in reference to Joseph Muscat’s pledge to resign should Labour’s energy plan fail.

Continuing on the theme of energy policy, Gonzi expressed his incredulity at the figures being bandied around by the PL.

“Labour have made a serious mistake in their calculations. The actual cost of their project is closer to €600 million,” the Prime Minister said.

Gonzi also went out of his way to highlight the credibility of the PN commissioned KPMG report.

“They are a world renowned auditing firm. They have based their calculations on the figures published by Labour. The report was 5 days in the making, and the findings are that under Labour’s proposal, tariffs will actually increase by 5%,” Gonzi insisted.

Turning to the international expert wheeled out by the PN this afternoon, Gonzi said, “his advice is that the PL proposal does not work. On the contrary, it actually creates security risks for the country.”

A parting shot was had at the General Workers Union (GWU). “What we need are unions that look out for their workers. I am glad that most unions no longer act as a divisive force, and for the most part work in tandem with employers,” Gonzi said.

“Do not give up, the forces of good will prevail,” Gonzi concluded.

Dr. Gonzi....... You are the greatest danger to Malta's finances. Look at the latest financial results published. Do you think that the Maltese are plain stupid? Just go away and take your clowns with you. This country needs to be given back to it's people.

".. (KPMG) have based their calculations on the figures published by Labour" is clearly a lie, and this can be confirmed just by looking at the report they published (and by the statements Tonio Fenech made). I am still unsure of who's right and whether this proposal is viable, because there are a lot of things which I'm not qualified to make judgement on. However, if the PN are lying about things which everyone understands, one must question what they're doing about things which the general public finds difficulty in understanding.
