Labour leader Joseph Muscat and his wife Michelle received an enthusiastic welcome at Vittoriosa this morning with a 100-strong crowd - majority of which women - welcoming them.

"Cottonera is for everyone," Muscat and his party faithful said in one chant.

In a short address, Muscat told his audience to continue facing the election "positively", while "leaving the negative talk to others".

Generating shouts of approval and nodding heads, Muscat said it was the "unity" that distinguished the Labour movement from the other parties.

"It was nice hearing people say they were voting Labour for us," he said, prompting people from the crowd to say "this time it's ours".

Muscat said he was looking forward to the elections "serenely" and "with a smile".
