Denmark is in shock after several people were killed on Sunday in a shooting at a major shopping centre in the capital Copenhagen.

Police arrested a 22-year-old Danish man in connection with the shooting, with Copenhagen's police chief saying he cannot rule out the attack being an act of terrorism.

A video has emerged on social media of the alleged shooter holding a fire arm and then running into the shopping centre. Photos from the scene show panicked shoppers running away from the complex as gunfire rang out inside the Field's mall in the south of the city.

The shopping centre is 5km south of downtown Copenhagen. It is a huge multi-storey mall with shops, parking and restaurants, very popular with families.

A Harry Styles concert nearby was cancelled, with fans asked to leave Copenhagen's Royal Arena.

The Danish royal family also cancelled a reception due to be hosted by Crown Prince Frederik.

In her first comments after the attack, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Denmark has been hit by a cruel attack.

She said she wants to encourage Danes to stand together and support each other in this difficult time. She also sent her deepest sympathy to those who lost their loved ones.

Denmark last saw a major terror attack in 2015 - two people were killed at a culture centre and a synagogue in Copenhagen.
