Plans for Swieqi civic centre submitted to MEPA

Resources Minister George Pullicino announces project for €800,000 civic centre and garden in Swieqi.

Minister of Resources and Rural Affairs George Pullicino today announced that an application had been submitted to MEPA to build a garden and civic centre in Swieqi.

All work should be completed within a year, with an investment of more than €800,000.

The project is also expected to provide offices for the Swieqi council, a police station and a community hall amongst other things.

Pullicino said that the zone in Swieqi, which is surrounded by Triq il-Keffa, Triq Bessiera and Triq it-Terz, would be transformed to deliver 2,300 square metres of recreational space.

Project designs include a garden which would consist of a recreational space, trees, children’s playground, and a fountain as agreed with the Swieqi Local Council.

“This is another project to be added to the list of initiatives taken by the government to improve urban space and improve the quality of life for people,” Pulllicino said.

Pullicino also mentioned other similar projects completed this year such as the park at Xrobb l-Ghagin, Marsaxlokk, work on the Marsaxlokk promenade and square had been completed, and Triq Bisazza in Sliema was opened “amidst a whole list of other projects the government is working on to give people more space whilst improving Malta’s aesthetical appearance."
