Unsettled weather forecast for Holy Week
Windy and unsettled conditions are set to dominate Holy Week, with sunshine set to return on Easter Sunday
As Malta enters Holy Week, the unsettled weather conditions affecting the central Mediterranean, are set to persist up to Good Friday, the Met Office has said.
Maundy Thursday, expected to be the “coldest day” of the week with temperatures reaching a low of 10°C overnight and 14°C highs, is forecasted to be dominated by cloudy skies with rain showers throughout the day, with a possibility of thunder.
Winds will also persist on Thursday, with Northwest winds reaching force 5 to 6 by morning, and stabilising at force 6 later in the day.
Following this, the weather warnings currently in place, for strong winds and heavy showers, which may include hail, may be extended into Thursday.
Although conditions are set to improve slightly on Good Friday, isolated showers are likely to persist, with windy and showery conditions expected, typical for the season, which may pose increased challenges for evening processions. Winds will remain strong, gradually easing to force 5, with temperatures set to reach a high of 16°C, dropping to 11°C in the evening.
Holy Saturday’s conditions are forecast to gradually improve, although isolated showers are still likely. Winds are expected to ease, however, they will remain on the cool side.
Sunshine is set to return on Easter Sunday, good news for parishes, traditional processions, and celebrations. Sunday will see partly cloudy skies with light Northwesterly winds, alongside temperatures rising to 16°C during the day.
