The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) has issued a public warning after identifying asbestos inside a Pufferz Puffer sand toy, which may be exposed to children if rupture occurs.

Exposure to asbestos is associated with significant long-term respiratory illnesses, and even minimal exposure may pose health risks.

The Technical Regulations Division (TRD) of the MCCAA has taken the appropriate procedures to ensure that this product is removed from the local market with immediate effect.

Consumers have been urged to refrain from using the Toi-Toys brand product and, if possible, to return it to the retailer where it was purchased, who are obliged to redress users.

Consumers are also reminded to regularly check the Safety Gate platform before purchasing products to ensure safety.

The MCCAA will continue to carry out market surveillance activities to monitor the safety of the products available on the Maltese market and to take necessary measures.
