Clayton Bartolo will not contest the next general election.
The former minister took to Facebook on Sunday evening where he claimed that he is informed that during the next election campaign, “a disgusting and vile attack will be levelled against me, my wife, and her family.”
Bartolo said that this was being done to "undermine the Labour Party's success in government while diverting attention away from electoral proposals." In late 2024, Bartolo resigned after weeks of pressure and revelations regarding his wife, Amanda Muscat's lucrative public job.
The former minister said that after a discussion with his family, he decided not to contest the next general election, adding that the prime minister has been informed of this decision.
Bartolo ended his Facebook with a warning, saying, "You who did everything so my family and I go through this torture; I tell you there will be a time where everyone must pay what is owed."
In November 2024, Bartolo was stripped of his role as minister and was removed from the PL parliamentary group after weeks of dominating headlines.
He resigned following an investigation into transactions totalling around €50,000 made over six months by a company linked to a Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) contractor.
Before that, a standards commissioner report found that Bartolo and Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri had abused their power when they awarded Muscat a number of government promotions within their ministries.
