GWU launches MCAST industrial dispute
General Workers Union (GWU) issues directives to its members which will remain in force until a concrete date is given for the signing of the collective agreement
The General Workers Union (GWU) launched an industrial dispute at MCAST due to a lack of communication regarding the finalisation of its first collective agreement despite multiple unfulfilled assurances that the signing was imminent.
The GWU said it has issued directives to its members which will remain in force until a concrete date is given for the signing of the collective agreement.
The union explained that negotiations for its first collective agreement have been concluded for several weeks. During the process, the union said that it was given repeated assurances that the signing of the agreement was to take place in a short time. However, it claimed that a clear date for the signing of the agreement has not been communicated.
The Professionals, Finance and Services Section within the GWU registered the dispute in favour of its warranted non-educational professional members at MCAST, insisting that it cannot continue to wait indefinitely while its members remain without certainty as to when the new agreement will come into force.
“This situation is creating justified frustration among the members concerned, especially in light of the fact that there is a verbal agreement on the new financial package from which they are expected to benefit,” the GWU concluded.
