Fire blazes around Gozo's iconic Gelmus Hill

The Civil Protection Department (CPD) was called to put out massive flames surrounding Gozo’s Gelmus Hill just outside of Victoria. 

Footage shared on social media shows fireworks going off in burned fields.

A spokesperson for the Home Affairs Ministry said that the CPD is battling a grass fire.

Later on Sunday, the CPD said that its crews worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading. 

No injuries were reported following the incident.

The CPD urged the public to be vigilant in the current hot and dry weather conditions, and to report any signs of fire immediately by calling 112.
