Msida Creek roadworks damage Melita fibre network
Melita estimates that repairs are expected to be completed by 3pm on Monday
Melita said roadworks on the Msida Creek Project damaged a backbone cable in the company’s fibre network, causing a service outage across the south of the island.
The company said the relevant authorities had been informed of the fibre network’s location well before works began.
Despite this, Melita claimed that heavy machinery was used "irresponsibly," damaging its infrastructure and disrupting internet, television, fixed-line telephone, mobile, and business connectivity services in affected areas.
Technical teams were immediately deployed to the site to begin repairs and restore services as quickly as possible.
Based on current assessments, repairs are expected to be completed by 3pm on Monday, with services returning gradually locality-by-locality.
Melita clarified that calls to emergency services will remain available despite the disruption.
The company apologised to affected customers and thanked the public for its understanding.
