Kevin Francica appointed new head of Wild Birds Regulation Unit

The Gozo Ministry announced the appointment of Kevin Francica as the new head of the Wild Birds Regulation Unit (WBRU).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry highlighted Francica’s 36 years of experience in the public service, as well as his knowledge of the hunting and trapping sector.

The WBRU is responsible for regulating hunting and trapping, implementing government policy, ensuring compliance with national and international law, and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

Francica began his career at the Customs Department in 1998 and has since held several leadership positions across government entities. These include director responsible for international affairs, policy development and implementation at the Customs Department, director-general at the Health Ministry, and director-general at the Malta Tax and Customs Administration.

In his new role, Francica will lead efforts to improve the WBRU’s administrative efficiency and address the sector’s priorities, including strengthening its legislative framework and research programmes.

The ministry thanked former WBRU head Richard Lia for his work and service over the years and wished Francica success in his new role.
