Alex Sciberras to seek re-election as Labour president

Labour Party president Alex Sciberras has announced he will be seeking re-election.

“Over the past two years, we have achieved a great deal together and delivered important results. But the work is not yet finished,” Sciberras said on Facebook.

Sciberras was elected Labour president in 2024 after beating Norma Saliba by a 14-vote margin.

Sciberras said he believes Labour should be open to “people, ideas and difficult questions.”

“[I believe in] A party that builds on what it has achieved, but also has the courage to recognise where it needs to change to meet the challenges ahead,” he said.

The lawyer said the party’s strength lies in its ability “to listen, to learn and to continue creating what comes next.”

“History teaches us that our greatest strength as a movement remains our ability to recognise the call of the moment and the courage to answer it,” he said. “I am convinced that together, we can do it again.”
