One-year imprisonment, suspended for four months, after admitting to harassing a former girlfriend he chased to Malta.
A British national was sentenced to one-year imprisonment, suspended for four months, after admitting to harassing a former girlfriend he chased and found in Malta.
Stephen Baker, 33 from Plymouth admitted this morning to having harassed a Spanish girl whom he had befriended in Malta two years ago.
Baker had met Lina Atiyat in 2010 while the two were on holiday, and had decided to extend their holiday by a few months and developed a relationship.
However the two broke up and returned to their respective countries, until Baker discovered through Facebook that Atiyat had returned to Malta.
Baker returned to Malta a few weeks ago and chased the girl in a bid to convince her to get back together, harassing her by appearing in various places where she would frequent and bombard her telephone with calls and messages.
Atiyat made it clear that she did not want a relationship with the Englishman, and warned him that she had no further option but to file a police report over harassment.
Stephen Baker was subsequently arrested and charged. He admitted to all the charges, promising Magistrate Antonio Mizzi who presided, that he will not approach or attempt to speak to his former girlfriend.
